Science & Math-based Art Contest (SMART)

The Science & Math-based Art Contest (SMART) is a really cool idea.  Not just fractals but all different kinds of art that has some basis in the physical world
You can vote for your favorite artist at Facebook, though I can’t tell if the app is working as it doesn’t post to my page, or from the contest page.  However, this will not load on my desk top but does on my laptop.  And it does not matter which browser I’m using. I have the same problem with flickr.com.  So it’s some global setting hidden somewhere in the bowels of my computer. If you have the same issue, please let me know and maybe we can figure it out.

Still Point is an online gallery and blog with a quarterly publication available from B&N.  I have a few pieces in the Elements of Art: Texture exhibition which opens Wednesday, August 1 and closes November 6, 2012
At least one of my entries will be published in the Fall issue, very exciting.

Special Recognition from Upstream People Gallery

5 of 6 entries for the Upstream People Gallery’s 14th Annual Judeo-Christian Online International Art Exhibition received special recognition by the juror.

Jurors Statement:
RICK CHAPMAN of Greensboro, North Carolina gives an illustrative interpretation in his work “Exodus” showing an upward movement. His piece “Genesis” is quite effective with the imagery of basic molecular structure. “Numbers” is quite rich texturally with aspects of fractal manipulation. And “Solomon’s Temple” is very engaging with the strong color effects. Also, “Tabernacle” shows the golden character to enhance the special subject.

Ed Wedman EWW review

Ed Wedman sent me this review of my work – Thanks Ed!

“I have viewed many works of fractal art but never before have I been so mesmerized as by the works of Rick Chapman.  His works are a feast of color and movement that give the observer the opportunity to explore what the artists says it is, as well as the observer having a chance to take the movement, color and shapes into some meaning of their own.  The rich colors and movement begin a journey that truly culminates in technology and art as one.”  — Edward Wedman, Co-Founder, Exhibitions Without Walls for Photographers and Digital Artist, 2012
